As with all non-profit organizations, funds are not always available to purchase much needed items. George Derby Centre has a list of items that will greatly improve our residents’ security and comfort. We are dependent upon the generosity of individuals and organizations to assist with the necessary funds to purchase these items. Fund Raising Initiatives General Donations
George Derby Centre depends upon financial contributions and donations to assist in providing special programs and activities that enrich the lives of our veteran population and in maintaining the homelike atmosphere provided at George Derby Centre.
This year, George Derby Centre’s focus is to promote resident safety. Therefore, the priority for our fund raising initiatives is to expand and enhance our equipment requirements to meet the complex care needs of our increasingly frail residents and enable staff to assist residents in a safe manner.
New Bus
The bus that is currently used to transport resident groups on community outings and events is beginning to show signs of distress and requires more costly repairs. More importantly, the bus does not adequately accommodate the increased number of residents with wheelchairs. Therefore, next year we will actively campaign for the replacement our existing bus with a newer model that lowers to sidewalk height to enable easier access for wheelchairs. The new model will also accommodate 16 wheelchairs. Without appropriate transportation for wheelchair bound residents, many will not be able to participate in as many recreational activities and it is extremely important that residents continue to attend community events and maintain associations with their respective service organization. The cost for a new bus is $120,000
Bathing System
The Rhapsody Hydrosound Bathing System promotes a feeling of well-being simply and naturally. Residents cannot gain the full therapeutic benefits of bathing unless they feel completely safe and at ease. As we age and mobility decreases, bathing in a conventional tub becomes more difficult and potentially hazardous. Elderly residents need a tub designed for their needs with safe and easy access. Bathing supported by the right technology offers all residents the opportunity to enjoy the benefits, regularly and safely. We require 3 at a cost of $ 25,359 each
Maxi Move (Mobile Lifter)
The Maxi Move mobile floor lifter is the first truly modular lift that can be adapted to our unique needs. The Maxi Move offers flexible solutions to suit the lifting and transferring needs of our resident population and has a safe working load of 500lbs that will accommodate the majority of residents without compromising the maneuverability of the lift. We require 3 at a cost of $10,207 each
