Resident Living Units
George Derby Centre contains four resident living areas. Three of the units are home to 80 residents each and the Special Care Unit accommodates our residents suffering from Dementia, including Alzheimer’s’ Disease. Each resident living unit has a variety of communal areas for your enjoyment including:
Each personal living space is furnished with a single electric bed, arm chair, night table with a locked drawer and bedside and floor lamps. Other features include a built-in clothes closet, a chest of drawers, notice board and an adjustable shelving unit for a television or personal mementos.
We encourage residents to decorate their room and create a personal environment. Residents are welcome to bring in favourite items such as a comfortable chair, preferably with washable material, a television set and pictures and mementos.
Residents may acquire their own telephone and cable services for their enjoyment. If a resident is initially admitted to a semi-private room, they may wish to wait until a private room is available prior to making service arrangements since the companies charge connection fees for each room change.
Each room has several security features to ensure the safety and protection of personal belongings. The room is equipped with a nurse call bell located at the bedside and in the washroom so that assistance is always be available. Residents are encouraged to obtain a door key and to lock their room when out. When a resident is away, on vacation or hospitalized, the room lock will be plugged with a special device to prevent unauthorized entry. Please review these security features with the nursing staff.
