We believe that aging is a natural process that is part of living and growing. We also believe that each resident is a unique individual worthy of dignity and respect.

We offer a supportive environment in which every resident can live a meaningful life and be involved in their care. Each resident is encouraged to take an active part in life at the Centre in keeping with their abilities and interests. We promote resident independence, enhance well-being and offer comfort to those who are dying. Residents have the right to informed consent, the right to choose levels of treatment and the right to take reasonable risks.

We recognize that our residents are part of the larger community. Therefore, we foster relationships with and the involvement of family members, friends and our community partners. Within our community, we acknowledge the valuable contribution of the Residents’ Council, the Family Council and volunteers towards the promotion of our residents’ quality of life.

We believe that we will realize our purpose by adhering to the goals and principles of GentleCare and by sustaining effective teamwork. We endeavour to maintain a learning environment for staff and students through educational opportunities and research activities.

We believe that, through our dedication to this philosophy and by maintaining full accreditation status with the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation, George Derby Centre will continue to provide quality resident care, programs and services.
