You are here: We Need Your Help

Volunteers are an integral part of George Derby Centre. Last year, our volunteers contributed over 11,000 hours of their time to visit with our residents, assist with activities and operate the Gift Shop. Their time, talent, abilities and valuable contributions are widely recognized. Volunteer applicants are interviewed and selected based on their skills and interests. Orientation, training and quarterly meetings are provided for all our volunteers. Our volunteers’ commitment to our residents is what makes George Derby Centre a special place to live and work.

George Derby Centre Volunteer Society

George Derby Centre has a very active Volunteer Society whose major funding source is the on-site volunteer run gift shop. The money raised throughout the year is donated back to the centre to enhance our residents’ quality of life.

Why would You want to Volunteer?

Volunteers enhance the lives of our residents on a daily basis by assisting with social programs and bringing a sense of community to a lonely senior. Our residents are all war veterans, mostly male and their average age is 80 years old.

Who Volunteers at George Derby Centre?

There are as many different volunteers as there are ways to help. Our volunteers range in age and come on their own, with a friend, or via service clubs. The common thread is that they have an interest in seniors and veterans of the armed forces. Your time, talent and abilities are needed and our volunteer coordinator will match your talents and interests with a position that will make you shine!
